"The 2024 Northwest Maritime Summer Race Team program was a tremendous success, largely due to the generous support of the Seattle Yacht Club Foundation (SYC). With the foundation's funding, the program was able to expand its reach, offering crucial scholarship assistance that allowed every participant to join without financial barriers. This year, 10 young sailors from Chimacum, Port Townsend, and West Sound Academy participated, all receiving full scholarships that made the experience accessible to everyone."

"Dear Seattle Yacht Club Sailing Foundation,
I wanted to extend my gratitude for your support for my trip to Portugal for the ILCA 4.7 Youth Worlds Championship. I would have written this letter earlier, but I was teaching Sail School at SYC most of the summer which I enjoyed very much and would love to become a lead instructor next year. Mostly, I wanted to thank you for the support which allowed me to have a once in a lifetime experience in Portugal, the trip over was fun and the sailing there was amazing. I learned so much and am able to see the improvement in my sailing and I also enjoyed seeing Portugal not just from the boat. We ate a lot of delicious food, and I learned a new sport with the Finnish team and coach. Overall, it was one of the best trips of my life and I’m thankful for the opportunity that was made possible with your help, I will be continuing my last year on the SYC Junior Race Team next year."

The conditions were unfamiliar and challenging and taught the whole team a lot about sailing in different situations, and the setting made it even more special. Competing with sailors from different regions was inspiring, and I learned a lot about advanced sailing techniques and strategic decision-making.
